Stephen Bell is being inducted into the Midland Sports Hall of Fame in the category of Athlete for his accomplishments in a variety of sports. He was a champion in the sports of Hockey, Ball Hockey, Golf, Volleyball and cross-country running. He participated in local, regional, provincial, national and international events.

In hockey, he played in the Midland Minor Hockey system, eventually graduating to the Midland Junior C Flyers after a short stint in Orillia. Along the way, he was part of the Novice OMHA Champions and Bantam Regional Silver Stick Gold medalist as team captain. He then moved on to Orillia to be part of the North Simcoe Predators system and achieved success at the Major Midget level, winning Gold at the Columbus Day Clash Tournament in Pittsburgh, PA, along with numerous silver medals in various tournaments.

Attending St. Theresa’s Catholic High School, Stephen took part in cross-country running, volleyball, and golf, winning GBSSA championships as part of these teams. From a young age, he enjoyed playing Golf and spent a lot of time honing his skills at the Midland Golf and Country Club, winning the Club Junior Championship twice and the Club Championship in 2019.

Stephen’s greatest success came from playing the sport of ball hockey. Starting at a young age in the Penetang-Midland Ball Hockey League, he was on teams that were provincial finalists for many years, breaking through with a provincial championship in his Pee Wee year, followed by championships in each of his Bantam years.

He was then selected to play on the Ontario Team with players from across the province and won the national championship in 2015.

As a Bantam age player, he was then selected to play for Team Canada’s U-18 team and won Gold in Hungary in 2014 and Gold in the Czech Republic in 2016. He followed that up with Silver and Bronze on the U-20 national team over two years.

Over his young sports career, Stephen has excelled in individual and team sports. A humble, quiet-spoken athlete, he has always led by example and let his actions speak for him. Stephen is a well-deserving inductee into the Midland Sports Hall of Fame.
