Owen Bell

Owen Bell is being inducted into the Midland Sports Hall of Fame in the category of Athlete for his accomplishments in a variety of sports. He was a champion in the sports of Hockey, Ball Hockey, Golf, and Basketball. He participated in local, regional, provincial, national and international events.

At St. Theresa’s Catholic High School, he was Athlete of the Year four times, excelling in Basketball, Track and Field and Golf. In Basketball, he was a GBSSA Champion while at St. Theresa’s. He won Silver with the Penetang Midland Basketball Association Magic Atom Team at the provincial championships and Gold with the Barrie Royals.

As a hockey player, his success came early, as a silver medalist at the Regional Novice Silver Stick tournament and OMHA Novice Champions. In Atom, he was on the Regional Gold Medal Silver Stick team, won Silver at the International Silver Stick tournament, and was on the OMHA BB Championship Team.

Like his brother Stephen, Owen enjoyed great success in Ball Hockey at the provincial, national and international stages. He won Ontario Championships in 2014 and 2018 with the Penetang-Midland Ball Hockey Blazers and won Bronze as part of the Ontario Team at the Canadian Ball Hockey Championships in 2015. In 2016 he was on the U-16 Canadian National Team that won Gold at the International Championships in the Czech Republic, and in 2018 he won Gold in Slovakia at the International Championships as part of the U-18 Canadian National Team.

Midland Golf and Country Club was the location for several of Owen’s achievements in the game of golf. He achieved a rare hole-in-one at the 13th hole. He was also the three-time Junior Club Champion in 2014, 17 and 18 and Club Champion in 2021. He was also part of four GBSSA-winning Golf Teams while at St. Theresa’s High School.

 

Owen Ball has achieved great success as a young athlete in a number of sports. He has represented the Town of Midland well on the provincial, national and international stages and continues to shine. A fitting inductee into the Midland Sports Hall of Fame.
