“OLYMPIC WEIGHTLIFTING
DEMANDS EQUALLY AS
MUCH MENTAL STRENGTH
AS PHYSICAL POWER, A
BALANCE KRYSTAL HAS
MASTERED WITH
GRACE”

Krystal Lavechia (Dawe), a lifelong competitor, has been involved in sports all of her life. In 2017, she discovered Olympic weightlifting, a sport where she found her true passion. She continues to excel at the Provincial, National and International Levels, racking up an impressive collection of hardware.

Olympic weightlifting consists of two lifts: the snatch and the clean and jerk. Athletes are given three attempts at each movement to successfully lift the heaviest weight possible. Their best successful attempt in each lift is combined to determine their total score at the end of the competition. During the competition, the weight on the barbell can never be reduced, making strategic weight selection extra important. An athlete must record at least one successful lift in both the snatch and the clean and jerk; failing to do so in either, results in automatic disqualification.

Krystal’s most notable achievements highlight her outstanding success and consistency in competition. Having dedicated countless years to perfecting her skills, her passion for the sport of Olympic weightlifting is evident in her remarkable success:

Krystal currently holds two Canadian Master’s Weightlifting Records in the Women’s 40’s age group, weight class 53kg for the clean and jerk at 75kg and total weight lifted at 134kg.

Olympic weightlifting demands equally as much mental strength as physical power, a balance Krystal has mastered with grace. Krystal’s dedication and successes provide inspiration to athletes in the Midland area competing in weight lifting.
