Brent Lunnie

From the time he could barely tie up a pair of running shoes, Brent Lunnie was involved in sports.

While attending Parkview Public School, he was heavily involved in sports, and showcased his running skills often at the annual Simcoe County Area Elementary School Cross-Country Running Championships.

His love of sports extended into high school, where he participated in rugby, Dross-country run- ning and cross-country skiing. In 1992 and 1993, as a member of the Midland Marauders, Brent won the Junior Boys Georgian Bay {GBSSA) title in cross-country running.

That same year, he was named the most-valuable player on the cross-country ski team at MSS. Lunnie would later go on and represent the school at various Ontario (OFSAA) finals. Outside of school, he left his mark in hockey and lacrosse.

While a member of the Midland Minor Hockey Association, Lunnie led one team to an Ontario Minor Hockey Association Championship title. While with the Midland Minor Lacrosse Association, Lunnie won a Peewee D Ontario title in 1988, and was a runner up to a Midget B title in 1992.

Between 1993-1997, Lunnie suited up with the Whitby Warriors of the Ontario Lacrosse Association Junior A League, helping guide the team to an appearance in the Ontario finals in 1996.

The following year, the Warriors won the Ontario Championship and later the Canadian Minto Cup Championship.

In 1997, Lunnie was named co-winner of the Glen Sheffield Memorial Trophy, along with his brother Kevin, for team dedication and ability.

In 1995, while at the University of Guelph, Lunnie and the Gryphons won the Division I Canadian University Field Lacrosse Championship. He later continued his career playing senior lacrosse at St. Catharines Athletics, and, in the 1999-2000 season, he served as co-captain of the McMaster University men’s field lacrosse team.

Through all of this, he and his brother found time to coach the Midland TMR Transmission Braves to the Provincial C Division Championship title in 1998.

In recognition of his achievements, he was named the co-recipient of the Zone 4, Coach of the Year award.
